4/4 "Dresden" Violin, circa 1885

Believed to be from the workshop of Alfred Moritz, Dresden, this violin is styled on a Stradivari pattern (G form) and measures 359mm across the back. Back, ribs and neck made from exquisite Birds Eye maple and the belly from even, medium width spruce. Finished in yellow/brown varnish, typical of the Moritz workshop of that time, and carries a repair label inside "J. Rathbone, March 1953"
Strung with Larson Aurora strings, this violin has a warm sonority and depth in the lower registers and a bright top end.
