New Instruments
Together, we can create your perfect musical partner. Traditional and contemporary styles with a wide choice of finish, accessories and sound.
Each instrument is made to exacting acoustical standards to ensure the optimum in tone, response and power
The wood is everything – all instruments are traditionally constructed on an internal mould, and use well seasoned, quality Maple or Sycamore for the backs, ribs and necks.
Tonal perfection – the belly (table) is made from high quality Spruce tonewood, and before final soundbox closure, back and belly are tuned sympathetically with each other using the Chladni plate tuning technique. After instrument assembly, a full FFT frequency spectrum analysis is conducted, to determine where final tuning adjustments can be made.
Electro acoustic variants - ensuring the full acoustic integrity is preserved by using discrete, active Piezo sensors in the bridge, and signal routing within the chinrest, these installations offer the best available today.
Finishing – for traditional finishes, I formulate my own varnish from tender Pine resin, Linseed oil and turpentine, giving a soft and flexible varnish that does not compromise the tone of the instrument. Alternative finishes can be applied on request
Working with you
Attention to detail – personal attention to the details that you specify will create your own unique hand-made, contemporary instrument.
Be a part of the making process – during the making process, visits to the workshop, by arrangement, are highly recommended.
Your instrument – from the choice of wood, style, fittings and finish, you can see the construction as it evolves, and ideally, become involved in the final tonal set-up.
(The soundfile below is a Vio-4, 4 string violin , strung with Evah Pirazzi, Electro-acoustic variant, played in pure acoustic mode. Recorded in Mp3, on a ZaxSound cardioid condenser mic, into i-Pad10).
