I first met Glyn when dropping off some children's violins for maintenance. On this occasion he´d invited me to try out one of his 5-string violins. I was hooked straight away - not only did it sound amazing, the fact that I could add the entire viola repertoire without having a second instrument or indeed having to navigate different size fingerboards was a revelation.
It took me another few years until I was financially comfortable enough to be able to indulge myself with a new violin and at that time I was no longer living in the UK but had moved to Germany. At that point, the UK had left the EU customs union, which created some uncertainties around how to import a custom-made violin to the UK. Glyn was very mindful of this situation and did some thorough research so that we both knew exactly how the process of shipping the final product would work and how much import tariff would be applied.
We navigated the entire process remotely and Glyn was awesome in ensuring that I could be part of it. He advised on which piece of wood to select and explained each step of the process in detail. It took about 4 months from placing the order to the violin being ready for shipment and throughout this time I have received regular updates and nearly one hundred photographs documenting the progress.
When the violin was finally ready, Glyn packed it securely and it arrived within a matter of days. Unwrapping it felt very special and I am still totally in awe when I play it. It sounds absolutely amazing!
